SURREY PUB REOPENS AFTER £1.3 MILLION TRANSFORMATION

Posted: 3rd December 2019

A £1.3 million transformation of The Woolpack in the Surrey village of Banstead has been completed by Shepherd Neame.

The Woolpack, based in the village’s High Street, was closed during the major three month project. It involved remodelling the pub layout and redecorating throughout, with stylish new décor and lighting aimed at retaining the pub’s warm, traditional feel but with a quirky modern touch.

The toilets were moved to a new first floor extension, allowing the size of the kitchen to be doubled. The kitchen now has an open pass, allowing customers to watch the team at work and speed up the delivery of food.

Work also included extending the restaurant at the rear of the building, doubling its size. The restaurant has new bifold doors which lead out to the terrace and garden which has also been remodelled, with a new glazed pergola, new outside bar, garden furniture and lighting.

At the front of the pub, the entrance has been made more attractive by removing the high hedges and introducing a turfed area surrounded by a low white picket fence. The pub exterior has been painted and a new bespoke swing sign created.

To coincide with the pub’s new look, a delicious new food menu has been introduced. Customers can choose from a range of traditional pub classics, along with a selection of sharing platters and light bites. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible, and all tastes are catered for, with a delicious range of vegetarian and vegan dishes available.

The drinks offer has also been refreshed, with an extensive range of beer and cider on draught and in bottle, along with a choice selection of premium wines and spirits and cocktails. A full hot drinks menu is also available throughout the day and evening, along with a delicious selection of cakes.

Manager Ken Coetzer said:

“The pub can now accommodate around 125 covers throughout the snug, bar area and restaurant. During the summer, we will also be able to seat around 250 people in the garden. As we are situated in the heart of the village, lots of locals walk to our pub, and we are lucky to have a large car park with 45 spaces behind the pub.”

Nigel Bunting, Director of Retail and Tenanted Operations, said:

“We are delighted with the finished results of this project. The Woolpack is one of our most popular pubs, so this investment is aimed at providing much needed additional space and improved facilities. We are confident that Ken and his team will ensure that this pub goes from strength to strength in the coming months.”

The Woolpack is open from 11am to 11pm Monday to Thursday, 11am to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 12 noon to 10.30pm on Sunday.
