Pub of the Week: Chequers on the Green, High Halden
Located in the lovely Kentish village of High Halden, the Chequers on the Green is a Grade II listed pub, with some parts dating back to medieval times.
Inside you’ll find lots of original features such as old oak beams and exposed brick walls, comfortable furnishings and décor in keeping with the age of this traditional country pub. There’s also a cosy open fire to warm up by on chillier days.
On the bar there’s a good choice of local cask ales and lagers, and a carefully selected list of wines from around the world.
Food here is served in generous portions, and you can expect a good choice of classic and modern pub food, made with love and care from the best local ingredients.
Choose from their range of gourmet burgers, or treat yourself to a 28 day aged steak from the chargrill. There are pub classics, too, such as traditional cod and chips, and an excellent choice of mains including beef wellington or a half chicken and chips, plus seafood and vegetarian options.
For quiz fans, there’s a fun pub quiz weekly on Sunday evenings from 8.30pm.
The team are also happy to host your small function, private dinner or celebration. Call or pop in for more details.
