New Wine Bar Unveiled at Historic Blackheath Pub
A stylish new wine bar is now open to customers at The Crown in Blackheath.
The brewery spent £45,000 to convert the first floor function room of the 16th century building into an intimate bar, complementing the successful pub on the ground floor.
The wine bar can hold up to 60 people, and it has been decorated in a contemporary style, with some quirky touches such as the addition of French riddling racks, used when making Champagne, as partitions between seating areas.
A wide range of wines from family-owned vineyards will be on offer, and a wine cave has been installed to ensure red, white and rosé wine is stored and served at the perfect temperature, whether by the glass or bottle. There will also be a selection of distinctive craft spirits, with a particular focus on gins and whiskies.
Customers can also sample a delicious new tapas-style tasting menu, with a selection of individual and sharing dishes, including salt and pepper dusted whitebait, tortilla, calamari, pan fried chorizo and patatas bravas.
Manager Keith Hedley said:
I have been at The Crown for almost 13 years, and I’m absolutely thrilled with the new wine bar. My staff and I have undertaken training to develop our knowledge of wine tasting and pairing, so we can offer customer advice and help them discover new wines. The new tasting menu is also proving very popular, a great addition to our main menu of bar snacks and pub classics.
Shepherd Neame’s director of retail and tenanted operations Nigel Bunting said:
