Daring Pub Manager To Jump Into Action For Charity
The assistant manager of the Beau Nash Tavern in Tunbridge Wells is planning a sponsored tandem parachute jump to raise money for charity.
Ben Crossan, 27, has worked at the Shepherd Neame pub for three years, and also volunteers as manager for the St John Ambulance Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge adult unit. Ben, who lives in Tunbridge Wells, became a St John Ambulance volunteer around four years ago, and recently put his first aid skills into practice when a male pedestrian was hit by a car just outside the pub. Ben was first on the scene, so stabilised the victim and asked a member of the public to call an ambulance.
The funds raised by Ben’s jump, due to take place in June, will go towards a new Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) for his unit to take to local events.
Ben, who lives in Tunbridge Wells, said:
This will be my first ever parachute jump. I was inspired to take on the challenge as part of St John Ambulance’s new Donate for Defibs campaign. When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, their chance of survival falls by 10 per cent every minute without first aid. But, with CPR and the use of a defibrillator within three minutes, their chance of survival could be as high as 70 per cent. We’d really like to buy a new AED for the unit, which could be the difference between a life lost and a life saved when we’re out and about providing first aid cover at local events.
