Pub of the Week: The Stag, Hastings
The Stag Inn is a traditional pub on the edge of Hastings Old Town, offering a warm welcome, quality pint and quality home-cooked food.
Inside, you'll find a Tudor oak-beamed ceiling and a stone arched fireplace dating from when the pub was built in 1547. Outside there’s a covered patio area, and terraced garden with patio tables for warmer days.
Food plays a central role at The Stag, where you can expect delicious dishes freshly made to order. As well as pub classics such as fisherman’s pie and sausage and mash, you’ll also find some more substantial, a la carte dishes, and a good choice of vegetarian options. On Wednesdays, an exclusively vegan menu is served, and on Thursdays a Balinese menu, offering a range of delicious curry, rice and noodle dishes.
On the bar you’ll find a choice of real ales and lagers, as well as ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks.
If you’re looking for a function venue, the newly refurbished back bar is ideal for small groups of up to 25, with buffet catering or full sit-down meals available.
The Stag has a busy weekly schedule – with a folk music session on Tuesdays, and Bluegrass on Wednesdays. The folk session has been running for over 40 years, and with the wealth of musical talent in Hastings you will be hard pressed to find anything like it anywhere else. It is described as being never the same, but always fun. There is also an open mic singing session every other Thursday.
