Pub of the Week: The King's Head, Deal
The King’s Head in Deal is a traditional English inn with rooms, which enjoys an enviable position slightly set back from, but directly overlooking, the seafront of this popular Kentish seaside town.
Just a short stroll from the centre of Deal, the King’s Head is a classic pub downstairs, with extensive outdoor seating area overlooking the sea, ideal for relaxing with a pint and enjoying the spring sunshine.
The pub also incorporates the Channel View Guesthouse, providing a total of fourteen comfortable and affordable en-suite B&B guest rooms for those looking to stay longer, including ten rooms with a sea view, and two downstairs rooms, ideal for those needing easier access. There are family rooms, and wifi is available throughout.
The pub’s surprising extensive menu has something for everyone. Whether it’s a small plate of breaded whitebait to accompany your pint, sandwich or jacket potato, all the way through to succulent 8oz steaks, locally made butcher’s burgers served with your choice of toppings, pub classics like lasagne or ham and eggs, or their ‘Catch of the Day’, to make you feel you’ve really experienced a day at the seaside.
On the bar, you will find a range of quality Kentish cask ales, as well as a choice of lagers, wines, and all your usual favourites.
The pub is host to regular live music at weekends, with good quality local bands, and a range of music with something for everyone. There is also a monthly quiz night, and live sport from Sky and BT on four big screens. Throughout the summer there is also live music outside on Sundays.
Deal is perfect for a short weekend of rest and relaxation by the sea. Explore the Old Town, visit the beautiful National Trust castle at Walmer, or enjoy an ice cream on the pier. It is also ideally positioned for golfers, being a short drive from many courses, including Royal St Georges and Royal Cinque Ports.
