Pub of the Week: The King Henry VIII, Edenbridge
The King Henry VIII is a truly historic English pub, boasting dramatic Tudor chimney stacks, oak beams and and panelled bars, all restored using traditional Tudor craftsmanship.
Situated opposite Hever Castle, there has been a pub on this site since 1597, with the current building dating from 1647.
Inside, you’ll find exposed brickwork, leather sofas and an open fire to warm you on colder days. Outside there is an attractive beer garden, and covered seating area with heaters.
On the menu you will find a good choice of traditional and modern British dishes, all served in generous portions, with options for meat and fish lovers and vegetarians alike, plus special meals for the children. The King Henry received the ‘Pub Food of the Year’ Award at the Shepherd Neame Awards in 2016 so you are sure to be fed well!
Enjoy classics such as homemade deep filled pie of the day, fillet steak or lasagne, or something a little more adventurous such as Bouillabaisse with artisan bread, or a Chicken Breast with Gorgonzola and Pancetta, served with chunky chips and salad.
On the bar there is a good choice of cask ales, lagers and cider, as well as a carefully chosen list of wines from around the world, and all your favourite soft drinks.
Why not combine a pub lunch with a visit to Hever Castle opposite? The Castle, once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has splendid rooms to explore, vast award-winning gardens, and lots for the children including a water maze and collection of model houses.
If you are planning to visit at the weekend, booking is recommended. To find out more, visit the pub’s website or call the team on 01732 862457.
