Pub of the Week: The Britannia, Guildford
The Britannia is a popular pub just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Guildford. Situated in a very pleasant location on the banks of the River Wey, the pub is ideal for relaxing after a sightseeing or shopping trip.
The pub was named Pub of the Year 2016 in the annual Shepherd Neame Pub Awards, in recognition of the hard work put in by manager Lee Walker and the team since 2009 to develop the pub’s reputation for consistently excellent food and drink. They were also recently named Best Pub in the town’s Best Bar None awards for a third year running.
Inside, the pub is spacious and airy, with plenty of room for dining. To the front, there is a patio area and to the rear a pleasant covered courtyard. The pub is known for its relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with a selection of books and board games available for customer use.
The pub has good disabled access, and is family friendly, with high chairs and changing facilities available.
Dogs are also welcome, with water bowls, treats and dog beds all available from the bar.
The menu is designed to cater for all tastes and appetites, offering everything from sandwiches and snacks to burgers and pub favourites. There is also a range of house specials, vegetarian choices, and a children’s menu.
A Cask Marque accredited pub, on the bar you will find a good choice of well-kept cask ales, including guest and seasonal ales, as well as lagers, cider, and wines from around the world.
The pub hosts regular live music, including the very popular ‘Uke Jam’ session on the last Sunday of the month from 8pm.
