SHEPHERD NEAME TO JOIN CITY CELEBRATIONS IN THIS YEAR’S LORD MAYOR’S SHOW

Posted: 7th November 2022

Independent family brewer and pub company Shepherd Neame will take part in the Lord Mayor’s Show for the first time on Saturday, November 12.

Chief Executive Jonathan Neame currently holds the position of Master of the Worshipful Company of Brewers, and was therefore invited to join in the landmark event, organised by the City of London Corporation.

Combining carnival and state ceremony with military parade in a unique, vibrant spectacle that typically attracts half a million onlookers, the event raises money for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, which this year is supporting the following charities: Samaritans, OnSide Youth Zones, DofE, Place2Be, OnSide Youth Zones and National Numeracy.

As a nod to its history as Britain’s oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame’s entry in the procession will include a traditional dray pulled by two shire horses. Horse-drawn drays were used by the company until the early 1900s to transport goods and deliver beer to its pubs around Kent. This will be followed in the parade by two of Shepherd Neame’s classic delivery vehicles, the 1923 Austin 7 van and the 1926 Thornycroft truck, both of which are usually on show to the public during brewery tours. All the vehicles will be decorated with hops, to represent the brewery’s unique location in the Garden of England. Chief Executive Jonathan Neame will travel on the dray with guests and dignitaries, and team members will walk alongside the vehicles wearing branded Shepherd Neame clothing.

The parade, consisting of more than 130 floats, will start at 11am from Mansion House, travelling to the Royal Courts of Justice, where those involved in the procession will stop for lunch. The procession will then recommence, coming back via the Embankment and Victoria Street.

Chief Executive Jonathan Neame said: “Shepherd Neame is proud to have been invited to take part in this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show. We are delighted to join in this spectacular event, celebrating the City of London while also helping to raise funds for some incredible charities through The Lord Mayor’s Appeal.”

The show will be broadcast live on BBC1. For more information visit https://lordmayorsshow.london/
