Maybe you've got a craving for avocado on toast, or perhaps it's late Sunday morning and only a hearty full English will do. Whatever your breakfast or brunch needs, these pubs will get you set up for the day ahead.
1. Castle Inn, Bodiam
Concentrating on local ingredients where possible, the Castle Inn offers a breakfast and brunch menu with a very original slant. Dishes include boiled eggs with Marmite soldiers, knickerbocker granola with blueberries and natural yoghurt, and bubble and squeak, served with a fried egg and a choice of black pudding or smoked salmon. A full English, traditional of veggie, is also available. Breakfast is available Saturday and Sunday from 9am until 12 noon.
2. Kings Head, Wye
Good food and quality, locally sourced ingredients are integral to the ethos at the King’s Head, a classic and acclaimed Kentish gastropub sitting at the foot of the Wye Downs. The breakfast menu includes a sumptuous full English and also a vegetarian equivalent. Other dishes include avocado with grilled tomatoes, poached eggs and toast, American style pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Breakfast is served Monday through to Friday from 8-11am, Saturday from 8-10.30am and on Sunday from 8-10am.
3. Marine Hotel, Tankerton
You can enjoy stunning views of the Thames Estuary while tucking into breakfast and brunch at the perennially popular Marine Hotel, just a short stroll from Whitstable. Served from 7.30am until 11.30am, the extensive breakfast menu ranges from classics such as a full English and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, through to smoked haddock, poached egg and spinach, locally smoked kippers and eggs Benedict served on a muffin. Whenever possible local and seasonal produce is used.
4. Market House, Maidstone
Transformed following its recent £900,000 refurbishment, the Market House offers a brunch and breakfast menu every day from 10am through to midday. It features the famous Market House brunch (sausage, bacon, egg, tomato, mushrooms, baked beans, potato rosti and sourdough toast). There is also a vegetarian version alongside avocado toast and a British hash of potato, mini sausage, bacon, caramelised onion, black pudding and egg.
5. Millers Arms, Canterbury
Breakfast is served at the Millers Arms seven days a week from 7am through to 11am. The menu features the popular Millers brunch – sausage, bacon, egg, tomato, mushrooms, black pudding, potato rosti and beans, with sourdough artisan toast – and the meat-free Millers veggie brunch. Other breakfast and brunch options include British hash – potatoes with sausages, bacon, black pudding and egg – and French toast.
6. Minnis Bay, Birchington
Offering wonderful sea views in a contemporary setting, the Minnis Bay Bar and Brasserie is a great place to stop off for breakfast and brunch, which is served daily from 9am through to 11am. In addition to a full English breakfast, including a vegetarian option, the menu also includes smoked salmon and scrambled egg, eggs Benedict served on a muffin and bacon or sausage in a brioche bun. There are also a number of dishes specifically for children.
7. Pier five, Chatham
Breakfast and brunch are on the menu from Friday through to Sunday at this contemporary bar and kitchen located in the heart of the revitalised Chatham Maritime, with the kitchen open at 9am each day. On offer is a full English breakfast - sausage, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, hash browns, grilled tomatoes and baked beans - alongside lighter items, such as an eggs benedict royale bagel, avocado on sourdough toast and French toast.
8. Royal Albion, Broadstairs
Standing proudly on the seafront since the late 18th century, and once a popular haunt of Charles Dickens, the Royal Albion is a stunning location for breakfast or brunch. From a full English breakfast, either traditional or the vegetarian option, through to tasty lighter bites such as American buttermilk pancakes, bubble and squeak with bacon, and poached egg on toast, there’s something to suit most tastes. Breakfast and brunch are served Monday until Friday from 7am to 11am, and at weekends from 8am until 11am.
9. Spitfire, West Malling
Breakfast and brunch, served from 10am until 12 noon, is available seven days a week at the Spitfire, which has recently undergone a major refurbishment and remains a stunning contemporary Kentish pub. There is a classic full English breakfast available, alongside a vegetarian version. Other interesting options include chorizo and scrambled eggs, feta, edamame beans and peas on toasted sourdough bread, and baked spicy beans with eggs.
10. Singleton Barn, Ashford
Housed in a 17th century barn, the rustic atmosphere of the Singleton Barn is the ideal setting for a leisurely breakfast or brunch. The menu ranges from a full English – bacon, sausage, mushroom, hash browns, tomatoes, baked beans and eggs cooked to order - through to a selection of sandwiches and rolls. Or just toast and a cuppa’. Enduringly popular is the late breakfast club three tier toastie, which features bacon, fried egg, tomato and Spitfire Ale sausage. Breakfast is served from 10.30am.
1. The Black Boy, Sevenoaks
Dating from at least 1616, the Black Boy is one of the most historic pubs in Sevenoaks. It’s also a great place to stop by for breakfast or brunch, with food served from 10am every morning from Monday through to Saturday. The brunch menu, which is available until 5.30pm, is small but perfectly formed. The Black Boy brunch is a mighty all-day breakfast, while for the non-meat eater there is a veggie option. Lighter bites include smoked salmon and scrambled egg, and French toast.
