Pub of the Week: The Black Horse, Telham
Located on the outskirts of the historic town of Battle, The Black Horse is a popular pub that welcomes families, ramblers and is also dog-friendly.
A tavern is recorded on this site as early as 1867 and it was originally called the Horse and Groom. In 1905 it changed its name to the Black Horse after a nearby inn of the same name closed for business.
The Black Horse has both petanque and darts teams, while a skittle alley and regular quiz nights are also both popular. There is good parking to the pub’s rear.
All food is cooked fresh to order and starters include garlic mushrooms, baked brie and farmhouse pate.
An extensive range of main meals includes braised lamb shank, a spicy chicken burger, rib eyed steaks and a burger made with Aberdeen Angus beef. Vegetarian options include a meat free moussaka and a falafel burger.
At the bar there is an extensive range of ales and lagers. Available ales are Spitfire Amber, Masterbrew, Whitstable Pale Ale and a changing guest ale. Also on draught are Spitfire Lager, Five Grain, Strongbow cider and Guinness.
