Pub of the week: The Spitfire, West Malling
Soak up the sun this summer at The Spitfire in Kings Hill.
The pub recently reopened following a £1 million programme of refurbishment, and boasts a large garden with extensive seating, perfect for alfresco drinks and dining. It also has a children’s play area, making it a great choice for all the family.
The Spitfire was built in 1999 on a former Battle of Britain RAF base, which inspired its name, shared by Shepherd Neame’s signature range of Spitfire Kentish Ale, Spitfire Gold and Spitfire Lager. It has also influenced the pub’s stylish décor, which recalls the classic aircraft in artwork and features around the pub.
Whatever the occasion, The Spitfire is the perfect setting for a special celebration. The first floor is a private function room with its own bar, which can accommodate up to 100 people, and there are also function rooms on the first floor and second floors, which can both accommodate up to 20 people.
Food is served every day, with breakfast from 10am to noon, and the main menu from noon to 9.30pm, with an extensive selection of dishes to suit all tastes. Chargrill is a speciality, with prime cuts cooked to order and delicious gourmet burgers. Diners can also choose from a wide range of pub classics including Spitfire Ale Sausage and Mash. The family-friendly pub offers a Young Diners menu, and advance booking is advised for the popular traditional Roast Dinner on Sundays.
In addition to its extensive food offer, The Spitfire serves a wide range of drinks. Along with traditional Spitfire Amber Kentish Ale, customers can enjoy the new Bear Island East Coast Pale Ale, Whitstable Bay Pale Ale and contemporary lagers including Spitfire, Five Grain, San Miguel and Birra Moretti. Shepherd Neame’s popular new Orchard View cider is also available, along with a comprehensive selection of wines and spirits.
