Pub of the Week: The Bell, Smarden
Enjoy a traditional Kentish country pub experience at The Bell in the picturesque village of Smarden.
Built in the 1500s during the reign of Henry VIII, The Bell is a charming pub boasting a host of original features including oak beams, flagstone floors and a large inglenook fireplace.
When the sun is shining, relax in the pub’s large garden, which is equipped with its own bar and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
The Bell is renowned for its delicious menu of pub classics, including the famous Bell Burger, homemade pies featuring rich gravy and slow-cooked fillings, and Beer Battered Fish and Chips. During the day, freshly baked ciabattas are available with a selection of fillings, served with chunky chips. The Bell’s Sunday Roast is particularly popular, with booking advised. The Bell prides itself on being family-friendly, and a separate Children's Menu is available.
Food is served from 12 noon to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm Tuesday to Thursday, 12 noon to 8.45pm on Friday and Saturday, and 12 noon to 3.45pm on Sunday.
The Bell is currently serving local brews Bear Island East Coast Pale Ale, Spitfire Amber Kentish Ale, Whitstable Bay Pale Ale and Spitfire Lager, along with international lagers San Miguel and Oranjeboom, Thatcher Cider and Guinness.
