Pub of the Week: The Zetland Arms, Kingsdown
The Zetland Arms is a fantastic little pub situated in an unrivalled spot right on the beach at Kingsdown, near Deal.
Inside, it has a homely, traditional feel with a nautical theme to the décor, using nets, rope, wood and copper to reflect the seafaring spirit of this little gem of a pub.
Outside there is ample seating at the front of the pub, right on the beach between the pub and the sea. On a clear day it is possible to gaze all along the shoreline to the White Cliffs, and watch the ferries making the short crossing to France. On breezier days, you can also choose to sit in the suntrap walled garden to the rear.
Licensees Tom and Karensa Miller, who have transformed the pub since taking over in 2013, received the Beer Hero Award at the Shepherd Neame Pub Awards 2017, in recognition of the care and attention taken to looking after their cask ales and serving an excellent pint.
The menu offers a good choice, with something for everyone from salads and sandwiches to daily restaurant specials, including of course a variety of locally caught fresh fish and seafood dishes.
It’s a great spot for lunch after a walk along the beach, perhaps along the beach from Deal or over the cliffs from St Margaret’s Bay. For golfers, the pub is just a short walk from the Walmer and Kingsdown golf club, and a short drive from various others nearby.
Visit soon and treat yourself to a pint, and a sea view sunset.
