New Rooms And New Look For Historic Coaching Inn
Historic coaching inn The Ostrich in Colnbrook, Berkshire, has reopened following a £1.1 million refurbishment.
The Ostrich is the third oldest inn in England, dating back to 1106. It is located in the heart of the historic village of Colnbrook, while also just five miles away from Heathrow airport.
Following the three month refurbishment project by Kent brewery Shepherd Neame, The Ostrich now offers 11 en-suite bedrooms. There are four standard doubles with disabled access on the ground floor, and one feature room, two superior doubles, and four superior double/twin rooms on the first floor.
Each room has been decorated individually in a comfortable, yet contemporary style, several with special touches including a roll-top bath. Facilities on offer include flat screen televisions and free WiFi.
The major refurbishment project also included repainting The Ostrich in muted greys, greens and blues. The inn’s traditional features, such as the oak beams, oak flooring and inglenook fireplace, have been preserved, and a new carved wooden bar, in keeping with the pub’s long heritage, installed. It also has new furniture, lighting and décor, mixing traditional and contemporary pieces to create a warm, stylish feel.
The inn’s kitchen has been refurbished, and it is now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, including the popular roast on Sunday. The team of chefs have created an exciting new menu, and cook all dishes fresh to order, using locally sourced ingredients.
Outside, the inn’s large garden has been re-landscaped, with new seating installed.
The oak-beamed function room on the first floor can accommodate around 30 people. Guests can also hire the private dining room on the ground floor, which seats up to 16 people.
Ten new jobs have been created as a result of the refurbishment, taking the staff total to 22.
Shepherd Neame’s director of retail and tenanted operations, Nigel Bunting, said:
The Ostrich is a beautiful inn with real character, and we decided to undertake this major development in order to maximise its potential. Due to the inn’s proximity to Heathrow, we thought that there would be a market for guests wishing to stay over, and have already seen a high demand for the rooms. The inn looks fantastic, and hopefully, with more visitors and more jobs, it is a great boost for the local area.
