Pub of the Week: Ye Olde Whyte Lyon, Orpington
Ye Olde Whyte Lyon is a traditional pub in Locksbottom, Orpington. Built in 1626, the pub is attractively decorated, with period features such as oak beams. A recent refurbishment has given the old pub a fresh and smart feel, without losing its historic charm.
Inside, there is a comfortable bar, and separate restaurant area, and outside you will find a very pleasant walled garden, with plenty of seating for sunnier days. The Whyte Lyon is a child-free pub, and as such is ideal for peaceful evening drinks with friends, or a couple’s night out.
The menu features a range of modern British dishes, freshly-prepared on the premises, using the finest seasonal produce whenever possible. You can expect to find a good selection of your favourite pub classics, as well as curries, steaks, burgers and sandwiches. There is also a tempting range of starters and desserts for those looking for all three courses.
On the bar you’ll find a choice of cask ales and lagers, as well as a range of ciders, spirits and soft drinks. For wine lovers, there is a carefully chosen wine list featuring wines from independent vineyards from both the Old and New Worlds.
The Whyte Lyon is host to regular live music events, and a pub quiz. There are two big screens for sports fans, plus regular darts nights, charity events and more. If you are looking for somewhere celebrate over the Christmas period, the pub is now taking bookings for its festive menu.
