Pub Donates £5,000 to Trio of Charities

Posted: 11th October 2015

The Britannia Inn in Hythe donated a total of £5,000 to three charities at a presentation evening on Thursday, October 8th.

Licensees Nigel and Sarah Cooper, who run the Shepherd Neame pub with their 18-year-old daughter Zoe and son Sam, 22, raised the money at the Britannia Fun Day in August.

It has been running for more than 20 years, and this year’s event offered a variety of activities for all the family, including duck racing in the river opposite the pub, a coconut shy, human fruit machine, tombola, mini golf and live music.

Nigel and Sarah, along with members of the Britannia Fun Day Committee, presented representatives from the Pilgrims Hospices and Alzheimer’s Society with cheques for £2,250. They also gave £500 to Folkestone Churches Winter Shelter, which runs from December to February offering help to the homeless and vulnerable.

Nigel said:

We have only been at the pub since last September, so this was our first Fun Day, and it went really well, attended by more than 300 people. The Britannia is very much a community pub, and we would like to thank our local supporters, particularly the hard working members of the Fun Day Committee, for their help in making the event such a success.
