Pub of the Week: The Albion Taverna, Faversham
The Albion Taverna is a friendly, waterfront pub serving excellent Mexican food. Located across the swing bridge, on the West side of Faversham creek, it enjoys a very pleasant waterside setting. There is an ample garden area for sunnier days, and inside the pub is peaceful, cosy, and atmospheric - the perfect retreat for winter’s day.
The Albion offers an excellent range of Mexican and English dishes, with something to offer for every appetite and taste. For nibbles, you could choose their own freshly made guacamole served with extra light, airy pork scratchings or the Crispy Calamari starter, served with lime mayonnaise. There is a wide choice of mains, offering everything from Smoked Chipotle Meat Balls to Gourmet Burgers, and Devilled Crab. There is also a separate menu for children, who can enjoy three courses for £7, with colouring pencils and activities on the menu to keep them busy.
It is the perfect destination for a mid-week lunch with friends. The lunch menu offers excellent value for money – choose from dishes such as the very generous ham, egg and chips, a rustic baguette and chips, or deliciously spicy Huevos Rancheros, all from around £7 each. Plus at The Albion, every customer also receives a voucher offering ‘buy one get one free’ meals for a return visit the following month.
For drinks, there is an excellent, well considered list of wines from around the world, as well as ports and champagnes. On the bar there is a choice of cask ales, usually including the Shepherd Neame seasonal ale, and for those who fancy something a little more exotic, there is also a good choice of cocktails.
If you are looking for a venue for a festive get-together or family meal, the Albion are happy to accommodate, and have inspiring special menus. And if you can’t decide what to do on New Year’s Eve, their Lobster and Champagne dinner is a must – perfect as the start to your evening’s celebrations, or a romantic meal for two. Don't delay though, places are limited and filling fast. It’s great for those lazy weekend days too – for a late Sunday lunch, when other pub chefs are hanging up their hats for the day, a warm welcome and delicious meal can still be found on the other side of the creek.
For more information, visit The Albion’s website or call the team on 01795 591 411. You can also find them on Facebook – but beware, if it’s anywhere near lunchtime, it might make you very hungry indeed.
