Pub of the Week: The Four Fathoms, Herne Bay
The Four Fathoms is a traditional pub close to Herne Bay’s attractive seafront. Its name is a measurement of depth – 24 feet – the deepest sea off the Herne Bay coast.
The pub has had a recent refurbishment, which included a full repaint inside and out, new flooring, a bar refit, and new décor and furnishings, giving a contemporary yet relaxed feel. The exterior courtyard has also had a makeover, with a pleasant new seating area.
For the first time, the pub is now offering food, with a fully refurbished kitchen and separate restaurant area for diners. The menu offers something for everyone, with a choice of sandwiches, pub classics and chefs specials, or pop in on Sunday for a traditional roast with all the trimmings. Can you save room for a Four Fathoms Ice Cream Sundae?!
On the bar you will find a range of quality cask ales, lagers, and ciders. Choose from a traditional Masterbrew or Spitfire, enjoy a refreshing Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager or, if you prefer a stout, try a velvety smooth Whitstable Bay Black. Of course there is also a good choice of wines and spirits, and you are equally welcome to pop in and warm up with a tea or coffee.
Combine a visit with a trip to the seafront, stroll down the pier and browse the beach hut style shops and traders, then pop along to the Four Fathoms for a relaxing lunch; or treat yourself to a pub meal after a refreshing walk at Reculver. The new licensees, husband and wife team Paul and Sam, will be waiting to give you a friendly welcome.
