Country Pub Launches One Mile Lunch
A country pub is taking local sourcing and food mile reduction to the next level.
The Dove Inn is located in the picturesque hamlet of Dargate near Faversham, and has been run by licensee Chris Johnson and his partner Dee Jacyno for nearly four years.
They have already made their mark with an á la carte menu which has received rave reviews from the likes of MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace, and accolades including a listing in the Michelin Guide and an AA rosette. And now they are introducing the One Mile Lunch – a delicious menu consisting solely of ingredients sourced within a mile of the pub.

One of the reasons we decided to take on this pub is its beautiful countryside setting, and we quickly discovered that there were a host of amazing farms nearby, providing delicious produce which we could use at the pub.
The Dove Inn sources its cheese from Cheesemakers of Canterbury in Dargate, fruit and vegetables from Mallards Farm Market Garden in Waterham. Chicken and duck come from Laughton’s Poultry in Hernhill and other meat from Summer Lees Farm in Hernhill.
Chris and Dee also forage around the local ancient Blean woodland, where wild garlic, wild mushrooms, blackberries, sloes and chestnuts can be found.

We came up with the idea of the One Mile Lunch to demonstrate the amazing range of produce which is on our doorstep, and support the local farming community. It also shows that people don’t need to travel miles to get their food – we can significantly reduce our carbon footprint by shopping locally. And, of course, the food is absolutely fresh, so it tastes delicious.
It will be a changing menu, dependent on what is available from the local farms that week. Our goal is to serve dishes which showcase the ingredients. It isn’t about what we can add, it is what we can leave out.
The One Mile Lunch will be officially launched on Tuesday, September 27. It will then available from noon to 2.30pm, Monday to Saturday (closed Tuesday), priced £12.95 for two courses or £15.95 for three courses.
