PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD WITH SHEPHERD NEAME & KENT WILDLIFE TRUST’S DOG WALK THIS HALF TERM
Walkers are being invited by Faversham-based brewer Shepherd Neame to kick off the half term holiday next week by joining a family-friendly nature dog walk in aid of its Charity of the Year, Kent Wildlife Trust (KWT).
The walk, which will be held on the morning of Saturday, October 22, will begin and end at Shepherd Neame’s Three Mariners pub, at Oare near Faversham, and take participants and their four-legged friends through KWT’s Oare Marshes reserve nearby.
Led by a KWT Protected Area Warden, it will offer a chance to spot rare and migrating birds, a range of wildlife that the marshes are home to, and to take in the breathtaking views across the Oare Marshes, Faversham Creek, and out across the River Swale to the Isle of Sheppey.
Visitors will learn about the nature which thrives at the reserve, and visiting birds, as well as the ongoing work to preserve and conserve the site. They can also find out more about how responsible dog owners can walk in nature without harming the environment.
And you don’t need to have a dog to come along – walkers with or without dogs, are welcome!
There is no entry fee to take part in the event, which will run from 10am to noon, and is open to all, with donations for KWT welcomed at the beginning or end.
There will also be an opportunity to stop off at the Three Mariners afterwards for a drink or bite to eat – though visitors are urged to book ahead if planning to do this.
The walk will run from 10am to around noon, and is suitable for ages seven and over. It will be over uneven ground in places, and is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. Dogs will also need to be kept on leads, and walkers are asked to dress appropriately.
The route is based on Shepherd Neame’s Three Mariners Pub Walk, one of 14 professional guides created around its pub estate, but is shorter, to allow time for visitors to stop and enjoy the countryside and hear more about the wildlife there.
Joanna Richardson, Director of Marketing and Communications at Shepherd Neame, said: “We are excited to team up with Kent Wildlife Trust for another family-friendly event which we hope will encourage people to get outside and enjoy the environment, and learn more about it.
“It is also a great opportunity to experience the warm welcome on offer at the Three Mariners, one of many of our sites which is truly dog-friendly.”
It will be the second time Shepherd Neame has teamed up with its Charity of the Year for a conservation event, after staging four beach cleans at coastal sites around Kent this summer.
And it is also the first in a series of events the trust is holding at Oare Marshes for half term. You can find out more here.
To sign up for the walk, please email [email protected], letting us know the names and ages of those taking part. You can also sign up on the day (numbers permitting).
